Iceland 1929 10 Aurar That Was Re-Punched

norseman012 Valued Member United States 357 Posts	Posted 01/18/2010 11:21 pm Here is a 1929 10 Aurar that was repunched at some point in the life of the die. . This is a repunched 29 . They repunched the die sometime during the production of this coin and the reason I know this is because both coins have the same clash marks in the zero of the 10. . Here's a question: is there any difference in the height(depth) of the digits between the two coins? I'm just wondering if they re-punched both digits to strengthen the date, and they did not align the 9 punch properly? The digits look deeper on your second photo with the 9/9? norseman012 Valued Member United States 357 Posts	Posted 01/21/2010 7:46 pm The 9 in the first photo (normal 9) looks to be higher from the fleids. The top portion of this 9 has a higher ridge along the outer portion of the 9 along this area. When they repunched the 9 it looks like the lower portion of the nine was extended towards the bottom portion of the 2 and the upper portion of the 9/9 was not inlne with the first nine or they re-repunched the nine trying to make the 9 look straight. They may have held the nine punch on a angle when they first tryed to repunch the nine and seeing that the lower part of the nine was closer to the two and the 9 was on a angle they try to make it look better by re-repunching the upper part again. This is all guess work. Sometimes I look at error coins and really wonder how the heck this happened. But I guess that this is why they are so cool to try figure some of these things out.
