Swedish, 1820, Skilling, Error Or Worn?

I was wondering if anyone could help me, trying to tell if this coin is a 1/4 skilling that has been worned, as it now looks as it is 1/1 skilling. It's really hard to tell if there has been a 4 there or not. As well with the "SKIL-LING", it looks as "SKII-LING". Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

Coins struck without a may often have weaker details because the coin metal flows away from the striking of the dies. It may also be due to an uneven copper planchet. I think it's a normal 1/4 Skilling. Report this Post to the Staff

DVCollector Bedrock of the Community United States 10045 Posts	Posted 01/03/2011 4:14 pm I am unsure too, because a lot depends on the dies, the flan, and how the coin was struck. A lot of things can happen. I'm unfamiliar with the older striking processes. But, on modern coin presses, sometimes details are lost when dirt or oil accumulates in the recesses on a die. When the coin is struck, coin metal cannot flow into the dirty portions of the die, resulting in incomplete letters and other details. Report this Post to the Staff
