In looking for more info on this nickel I came across this ebay listing --> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...9VjGFyc%253D for what looks like very similar damage. I wondered for a second if the guy gave up on the auction and let the coin back into circulation for me to get but I it's obviously two different coins. My questions then are, if this feeder damage and if so what is feeder damage? When I started looking I I looked for die trails  You can see the damage goes all the way across the coin   This last picture is because there is something else going on with the S in CENTS.  I hope I'm not posting too much in a row but I just found out I could do better pictures with my video camera than the normal digital one. |

Looks more like heavy die flow from a very late dis state. (VLDS)

On the obverse, am I seeing striations from "ERTY" on the rim, to similar marks between the hair and collar and over to "IN"--all in the same general direction?  |

Yes DVCollector. All on the same lower level of the coin, but the section by IN seems a little off line from the rest. A couple more pictures of that area   |

Actually looking at it again each section (liberty/collar/in) all seem a little off from the previous section by the same amount.

Looks similar to a 'trails' Lincoln Cent. I'm only saying similar. I'm not saying it is what that is. Edited by mitchhailey

The obverse now looks (from new images) like a very heavy polishing to remove a clash.  The reverse looks like an older polishing. The lines are starting to fade and will eventually flatten in time.  So it appears to be a polishing issue. Thanks for the extra images. The scratches show up differently with different angles of taking the image. Thanks for including these. It showed me something I didn't see in the previous images. |

My first thought was heavy flow lines as well, but they don't quite radiate out from the center. Die polish to remove a clashmark might explain it except why the same type heavy marks on both dies running in the same direction from the same location?
