CaptainFwiffo Pillar of the Community United States 4132 Posts	Posted 02/15/2012 1:38 pm The reverse is easily a 40, but the obverse doesn't make it, IMO. Maybe it's a net 37. In hand it's got nicer than average surfaces/color/eye-appeal. It's also got an above-average strike for the date ('21 is usually pretty weak around the periphery), so I think it's a keeper. CaptainFwiffo Pillar of the Community United States 4132 Posts	Posted 02/15/2012 2:11 pm Oh yeah, this is the '21 for my set. I haven't decided whether or not to crack it though. The shine is just "circulation polish", not leftover mint luster (which is more typical once you start getting up around XF45). A fair number of my circulated Mercury dimes have a pinkish-orange, slightly opalescent quality (massively opalescent in the case of my 1919), which I think is something caused by leftover skin oil over time. I debated a long time whether to hold out for a 40 or 45 (which is the target grade for the rest of my '16-31 set). I decided I'd be better off with an attractive 30-35 and saving some bucks for MORE COINS. Those whole grade boundaries are big psychological points, making the price curve irrationally steep. It's like 1 carat diamonds - something just slightly smaller is a much better deal; there's nothing special about a 0.00705479239 ounce diamond. Report this Post to the Staff
