That is one very cool "N" indeed..Great find and great photo..

Question.....

Is it the "norm" to find some amount of bottom serif tripling in the obverse legend when looking at RTC 81's ?

Thanks guys. This is one of my favorites also Bill, and it's not even an 1859.

All of the coins from that particular die will show some of the letters tripled at the bottom, like the ones you've shown (especially the A of GRATIA and the E of DEI) and also the T of VICTORIA. You can see them on higher grade coins, but as the coins wear it becomes less obvious.

Here is the T of VICTORIA on that die.

That's a nice one MG!

And a great close-up photo of the spur!

81's are almost as much fun as 59's.

Thanks so much Phil310..I had a hunch that you would also know the scoop on the tripling in the 81's..
