I have three (3) identical Tetricus II Antoninianus, I have attributed as RIC 270v: OBV: C PIV ESV TETRICVS CAES, radiate, draped bust right REV: SPES AVGG, Spes walking left, holding flower and raising skirt All three coins have good and bad. One coin I paid $3.00, one $9.50, and one $6.50. First, which coin do you like the most. Second, place the dollar amount you think applies to each coin. This should prove to be interesting and fun. I like the middle one the best because of the patina and I would also say that is the most expensive, the bottom one I think is the second best looking with that green patina I think the top one is the cheapest because it looks incomplete like a piece broke off.

I too like the second one because out of all three that has the best detail on both sides even though some of the legend is missing. I say $6.50. Next the 3rd coin, $3.00, and the 1st, $9.50 because of the interesting reverse.

Yeah, the second one is my favorite out of the 3, for sure. But the other 2 are nice also. 1. $3 2. $6.50 (thinking you got a good deal on it) 3. $9.50 (the green patina probably helped it's value) BTW, I noticed you reached pillar jw. Congrats!

On condition I'd say:
1. $3 2. $9.50 - has the best detail overall 3. $6.50
In reality who knows - sometimes you can pick up great coins for a few dollars and the bidding on bad coins often gets crazy.

Well, I started this thread hoping it would generate a little more discussion on what everyone thinks is a nice coin and what everyone thought about the cost of such coins.
First, my choice. The order of the images is the order in which I acquired the coins. All three have nice patina in three different shades. Although I like the reverse on image one the best, my overall pick is image three. Mainly because the obverse legend is nearly complete and the bust is in good shape. This bust actually shows the immature image of Tetricus II best. The reverse is the worse, but it is still my favorite.
Now for the prices. Coin one cost me $9.50. I think because I was looking so hard for a Tetricus II, I was willing to pay the extra. But as so often happens, once you buy a particular coin, others come on the market at better prices. Coin 2 was the cheapest at $3.00 and obviously then coin three was $6.50.
None of the coins broke the bank; and this thread lends credence to what Bobbyhelmet said on another thread about biding one's time till your coin is available at the price you want to pay.
Now it's someone else's turn. Thanks for all the input.

I too have 3 RIC V Part 2 270s. I've had these coins for quite some time, one of them was bought for me when I was a kid in the 90s from a bricks and mortar shop back before this 'interweb' thing was common. Think it might be easier to guess the prices of mine than JWs but two cost $7.50 and one $40. Its not that easy to find these coins (or any from the Gallic Empire) In great shape and at good prices. All three are 'better in hand' but one of them is very pleasing - just a shame my photography cant do it justice.

OK, the second image is my favorite for mainly the same reasons as I stated for my coin. Except your coin has an extremely nice reverse as compared to mine. Your first coin is also nice and would be my second pick. I wonder,if the third coin had a better photographer, would it also be a very nice coin?
As for costs: 1 and 3 : $7.50 2: $40.
Very nice coins by the way. I have a special liking for the Gallic Emperors as you can probably tell.

Wow I was completely off lol. Ok jw already got the obvious guess, so I'll say 1. $40 2 and 3. $7.50
This is pretty fun. I would post some of mine, but I've pretty much shared with you guys all the one's that I purchased (yes my Roman collection is that small lol).
....unless you want to see repeats that I happened to not have mention the prices of beforehand . Won't be as much fun though...

We can all learn more about these coins while we're having a little fun with the trivia. BTW, does anyone know the story behind the word Trivia. Think about it. Don't look it up. Dissect the word. What is the origin of the word TRIVIA? JW

The middle one was $40 - the other two were $7.50. Just been looking at these on ebay, the prices are crazy! There is one on for $150 and its only about as good as the two I paid $7.50 for, nowhere near as good as the one that cost $40. Crazy. Coin 2 is fantastic, I've not seen many as good but 3 is also very good in hand and I got it at a good price - just shows you dont have to break the bank to pick nice coins up.

Yeah, your coins were fairly obvious. That middle coin is fantastic, but I'd take any of the three.
