Ray, following my field trip to second hand camera shops I snaffled a complete Durst F30 enlarger and stand for Aus. $40. A good solid stand which when adapted holds the camera well.! Ikea supplied two Jansjos so stage ONE is complete. I am beginning my journey using a set of Kenko extension tubes and now have a decision on which lens to look for.! Quickly realized how time consuming the lighting factor is, especially with a wide lens getting in the way. Would a fixed focal length lens eg. Nikon 50mm 1.8 be a good start.? P.S. Happy Thanksgiving.

With the relatively large Durst stand, I would recommend going for a longer lens. Or, if you already have the 50mm lens, adding a Vivitar 2x Macro teleconverter, which were made pretty much to convert 50mm fixed lenses to 100mm macros. Problem is the 50mm lens is going to have a short working distance. Luckily the Jansjos give you a lot of flexibility in gettng light in where you need it.

Starting to get worried on one of my orders. http://www.ebay.com/itm/M42-SCREW-L...em20cc95baa0I purchased this M42 to FD adapter 10 days ago and have heard nothing. A few days ago I sent a message asking why the tracking number was not working? I will send another message tomorrow. The Jansjo desk lamps came today .. so I have everything I need but the M42 adapter. If and when I get all the needed equipment .. I sure hope I can figure how to use this set up ..

No worries, we'll help you get it set up and working. I ordered a couple of the same adapter from a different seller, and my tracking shows they arrived but I never actually received them. I think we're both having bad luck with FD-M42 adapters.

Ray, I celebrated a birthday yesterday and was stunned to discover that the "Minister for Finance" had ordered for me a Tokina AT-X M100 AF Pro D 100mm f/2.8 Macro for my Nikon D3200. . Hoping this lens will help in my quest for better shots. I know it will help with my orchids.!!

Ray, will this adapter work http://www.ebay.com/itm/M42-Pentax-...em483b7fda2cThe one I have on order I still have not gotten http://www.ebay.com/itm/14087131817....m1497.l2649After no response from three Emails, I opened a ebay case. So today I get a response from them saying it is on back order, yet their listing still shows 3 available. I feel they are not telling the truth, they started a tracking number .. I think they just never sent it. I will leave negative feedback. In your opinion is the top link a correct adapter for what I need.

Should be a nice lens for coins, though you will want a heavy duty copy stand to keep it all steady. Does the lens have a tripod mount? If not, you could always add a tripod ring if you can find one the right diameter. Or you could just mount the camera to a tripod or copy stand, though the extra weight might be hard to stabilize.

They marked as "shipped" and uploaded a tracking number to protect their ratings, but in this case it's going to backfire on them. I'd ask for a refund from ebay and then neg them. The adapter you linked to looks right. A bit on the expensive side, but at least a US seller. Do you have the M42-M39 adapter already?

Camera EOS to FD Canon adapter Canon auto bellow (need the FD to M42 Adapter) M42 to M39 80mm F5.6 EL-Nikkor Enlarging lens Plus the Jansjo desk lamps. I was thinking the adapter I found was a little high, but I did want a U.S. seller .. maybe I will modify my ebay search before I order and see if I can find a better price .. but at this point I want to be taking pictures ..

OK, how about something a little different... Here is a nice 5x Nikon Objective for an excellent price. I can't vouch for seller (he only has feedback of 1)or for quality of the optic, and the seller does not offer returns, but if you are willing to take a chance... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-micro...em35c22937e8

Ray .. that sound interesting. in your opinion, what detail of a coin do you think you would use that 5X lens for?
FYI - my last adapter was processed through Mobile at 7PM (60 miles away)

5x gives about a 3mmx5mm FOV on an APS-C sensor, just about right for capturing the entire date and MM on a Lincoln Cent (the RPM "money shot"). Not sure what that corresponds to on a Dollar but I think it will capture 2 full numerals of the date on a Morgan dollar IIRC...Ray
