Thanks, Ray. I'll see if goes lower than $200.

Ray, the lens went for $222.50. My top bid was $207. Thought that much over $200 was too much. There is another used one for $245 + $12.65 shipping. Is this what one must pay for that quality?

Yeah, actually the prices have come down. Used to be they would sell for $300, and $245 was a "deal".

Ray, I will see what happens when the auction for the 75mm ends this afternoon. I have the microscope stand you built with a Vivitar Bellows (see link below). What size lens would I need to shoot a PCGS slab with my setup? The 75mm works great for the coin, but not for the whole slab. Thanks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Vivita...em2c9f7b02c4

Ham...you'll need 105mm, plus you'll need to prop the stand up and remove the stage plate to get enough working distance for full-slab shots. Turning the slab 90-degrees helps as well so you fill the frame with the slab...Ray
PS: that bellows is worthy of being in this EL-Cheapo thread...less than $30 and brand new!

Lens looks good, and price is fair, though not a big bargain. I have bought from that seller before with good results.

You may be broke, but you'll be taking nice coin images! Hopefully the 105mm was an EL-Cheapo...?

I received the Rodenstock APO 75mm in the mail yesterday and promptly attached it to my Vivitar bellows. Right away I noticed some differences. The image seemed darker even though I did not change my lighting, camera settings etc. But the lens seemed to pickup more details on the coin. Would all this be normal? I have 14 days to return the lens. Paid over $200 for it, I want to be sure nothing is wrong with the lens.

Should be the same overall brightness if the aperture setting is the same. It's doubtful there is anything going on with the lens that could make the image darker, but just to be sure, shine a penlight (or Jansjo...) through the lens and look for internal haze, delamination, fungus, etc. The lens should be clear inside, maybe a bit of dust is OK, and should have no scratches on outer lenses for the price you paid. Check to make sure the aperture works, as maybe it's closed-down and won't open and that's why the image is dark.

Ray, shined a light and found everything in perfect order. That's to say with my limited experience. There is a switch on the side that has 2 settings. Do you know what that could be? Thanks.

It switches between clicking aperture or non-clicking.

I'm on the same journey as you Ham.. I actually bought that Vivitar bellows on a Best Offer of $29.00 total including shipping. I'm also watching a Vivitar triple track that is in like new condition right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/13161511614...K:MEBIDX:IT. I may bid on this and see which one I end up liking better. I may lean towards the triple track since it is an M42 mount versus the t-mount of the new in box Vivitar I just bought. http://www.ebay.com/itm/19169078938...RK:MEBIDX:IT. I will be going for the Rodegon APO 75mm to mate with the bellows. Now I'm hunting for a decent 105mm and a 50mm for some close up attributing photography.
