I generally instinctively start my typing there while my response is banging about in my head but then end up copying and pasting it all into the Reply to Topic box anyway to check my spelling before posting. I thought I remembered it once having the check spelling like the Reply to Topic has but maybe I am wrong. I think it would be simpler if we just had Reply to Topic every time. For what it is worth, I am using Quick Reply now. Since all modern browsers (apparently, IE not included) have a spell checker, it was never fixed or replaced.
