Recently me and a friend took his fathers metal detector out and we found some very interesting things. I am thinking of getting one myself but I can't afford to spend too much money on one. Any ideas on a good metal detector that is in a good price range?

You can get some cheap Bounty Hunter metal detectors from Radio Shack or Wall-Mart. I have heard they do find stuff. You could save up all the clad you find and buy a good one once you get about $250-$500.

No such thing as a good cheap detector, I've owned several machines since 1975. My advice, take it or leave it, would be to save up for a mid-range unit. My current detector I bought used, and have found coins hundreds of years old. I saved $ buying used, and my finds in 3 years have amounted to hundreds of old silver and thousands of coins. Read online reviews, do research...you won't regret it.

Anything that come from Radio Shack or Wall-Mart I wound touch,there is better place to look for second hand detector or new I got two of them and they are both Garrett machines,my Ace 250 is back in the box and for my pension day I got my self the top of Garrett the GTI 2500,i love this MD in one week I managed to find over 400 coins.

I know what you mean ccw2805. I justed got started recently myself. I didnt want to spend a lot of money til I was sure I enjoyed the hobby. I got the most inexpesive Bounty Hunter there was. I woundn't advise doing that. But I did enjoy the hobby, so when the speaker went out after 5 months. I returned it and upgraded, I went up 2 levels and got the Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100. Its still one of the most inexpensive models you can get. But I'm enjoying it much more, I can discriminate to just get signals for silver and copper. (No more pull tabs!) And I know that almost every signal I get with that setting is going to be a coin.

I don't have a metal detector yet. I'm planning on saving up by time this coming March and get a White's Coin Master Pro. That one is about $250 and there is a shop here in town where I can purchase it. I asked the guy on the phone at the shop if he would show me some stuff and he said he shows everyone stuff when they are a beginner and the right way to to it according to him.

Check out the Garrett ACE250 its a great entry level detector --- getting a pinpointer pays off too!

Thanks Mdj, I use Minelab. Payed $500 for an 8 year old Explorer II, and nice to know that I can resell a few years later and get my money back if need be.

Yes a pin pointer would work a lot better lol, thanks for the suggestions hopefully I will be able to get a good one soon

If you want to find your coins or other metal it's nice to have a pin pointer on the MD but also very good to have a pin pointer that would bring you derectly to your find,the garrett pin pointer is one of the best I have try and still using it,save time on the search

Garret, Tesoro or Fisher are great machines for begginers.
I would not worry about pinpointers etc untill you learn your machine and you find out if you like this hobby.
