Am I imagining this could be a 1937 3 legs and a D ? It's in pretty rough shape. Or well worn and wishful thinking?

Well worn and wishful thinking. I'm seeing the calf of the leg and I'm not even sure I'm seeing a D looks more like an S to me. I believe I can see the upper serif On the S.

It appears that the E PLURIBUS UNUM is almost touching the back of the buffalo on the coin in question. On an authentic 3 legged 1937 D it is further away.

Thanks guys. I didn't really think so. My brother pointed it out to me. I wasn't too excited about it and needed some expert opinion so I could tell him "nah".

Just something I pulled off the web.
One of the few "error" coins I wouldn't mind owning,
but I rather find it than pay for it (fat chance and
not much mystery there)

My aunt got a 1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo in her change at the downtown Denver Woolworth's,
but if I tell you how long ago that was, she'll beat me with her cane.

It's about XF-40, and it's still in her jewelry box.
