I would like opinions about a coin while giving as little information as possible so as not to lead anyone to a particular opinion. What are your opinions of the condition, value and authenticity of the coin in the photos? Perhaps I will be able to explain in a week or two. Thank you!

Your kidding....right?
This coin screams run. Or, at least punch a hole in it for a key chain. :)
At best - will grade as a genuine, corroded.
Believe it is fake - see the pictures here:

At worst - fake - cast.

Doesn't feel authentic to me. The fuzzy detail, pits and damage to the edges makes me think it might be casted.

I agree looks cast and fake, if not, it's been horribly cleaned.

I think it's a cast. I think it'd be next to impossible to clean and polish the chopmarks without losing more detail.

In the pic it looks fake to me - a terrible job of engraving the details on Miss Liberty - the mimicry is not done well.

Maybe real but it looks as if it was scrubbed with a metal brush, lol.

I find the chopmarks to be very questionable, there are no corresponding bulges or the reverse from the application of the chops. Some of the Asian counterfeiters are now striking fake Trades with chopmarks, the only problem is that the "chopmarks" are on the dies used to strike the fakes and not a separate application that leaves tell-tale damage.

I wish all Chinese fakes were so obvious. I think it is fake instead of cleaned because of the pitting, and especially the variation in detail on the coin. Some areas have lots of detail and others are nearly flat, but not in the way a normal wear pattern on that coin should look. I hope you didn't buy that coin thinking it was real.

I can't write to as authenticity as some others here, but I inherited quite a few Morgan and Trade dollars that were polished and buffed by my grandfather. Mom said he had tried to polish them to a "new" finish. The one we have that's closest is a '76 Trade dollar which was buffed so thoroughly that I have no idea what grade it was previously. There is something odd about the rim on this one. The other thing after comparing ours to the pictures are the Eagle's breast. Our buffed '76 had equal smoothness on the wings as well as the breast, for what that's worth.
