I show it to my family sometimes. My mom is always quite interested, my dad is a numismatist too but doesn't really have any knowledge on coins so he learns something from me every time. My two sisters collect coins too, but aren't that interested in it that much (they're just jealous of my collection).

My friends all know I collect. My kids collect with me too but are not supposed to tell people. They have their own little collections to show their friends but nothing big. My house is very secure though, we have an alarm system, dogs, good neighbors that watch for thing out of the ordinary, and generally their is always someone at the house. Plus we are heavily armed as well. I feel safe showing my collection to close friends.

We have a very small collection that my husband and I collect together. We've showed my parents and our son some of the coins. I've heard most people don't share their hobby freely with everyone. Sad, since I think more people would be interested - it's kinda awsome to hold a coin from the 1700, 1800 or early 1900's and appreciate it.

The wife occasionally asks me about a recently acquired coin but for the most part its just for my eyes and pride. One other coin guy at works knows but only generally. Think most of my friends and family would think I was nuts if they knew the scope and cost involved in the collection- not that its huge or anything.

I try to explain things to my wife, so she'll have some idea of what to do with my coins if I get hit by a bus. I've also tried to explain some coins to my kids, in the hope that they might become interested in the subject. I work with a guy who has invested in silver by buying shares of the SLV ETF, and I've talked to him about investing in physical versus digital silver, referring in a general way to coins that I have. But that's about it.
