DJB-
Do you know if any of those were official restrikes, like many countries made to get around US gold buying laws?

Hey 'biggfredd'. From what I can tell from Krause, there are no restrikes mentioned like they do with the Austrian crown pieces. I bought this from local coin store about 3 years ago. Got a good price on it too. I don't regularly collect gold coins, because of the price, so I take whatever I can get. Oh, for the record. I think the figure on this looks more like Batman, with the cape. Just my take.

Don't worry, it happens. Nice piece by the way. Here's one from mine. This is a silver Denar from Bohemia, dating from 1061-1086 AD. Issued under Duke/Prince; Vratislav II. BOHEMIA (DUCHY)~AR Denar 1061-1086 AD

DJB1968 - Vratislav II.was the first King of Bohemia from 15 June 1085. The royal title was a grant, however, from the Holy Roman Emperor and was not hereditary. Before being raised to kingship, he had ruled Bohemia as duke since 1061. He was one of the greatest of medieval Bohemian rulers. Your denar was minted after his coronation, that's why he has the crown on his had.

Thanks for the info 'Turtleoverhead'. I had one reference book that indicated this was before Vratislav was crowned king. That's why I dated it as such. I'll try to find more info about this piece if possible.

DJB1968 - What book is it? I have "Nejstarsi ceske mince" (The earliest Bohemian Coins 1 --4) from Frantisek Cach, published by Czech Numismatic Society.

It does look interesting/unusual/nice.
I'd call it a basket-weave pattern rather than wall block though.
