I remember probably in 2005-2006 littleton had ASE's in their own blister packs with information about the coins that they sold for "new" members for something like 3-6 bucks a piece and you could get 5 of them if you joined their coin of the month club. I got my 5 back then and I think I still have 1 still in the littleton pack. The coins are nothing special just bullion ASE's in those packs that they sent to promote their company and t6o get people to sign up with their COTM club. Edit: As a matter of fact mine was dated 2002 also

I have one of those ASE blister packs from Littleton also. I've got some nice rim tone going on the last time I looked at it.

Yah, mine have the same rim toning. And if seller really did get them for 3-6 bucks apiece I don't feel too guilty for buying them at $34.
Especially since silver has now dropped down to $29...

I remember getting sucked into Littleton when I was young for a brief time. I don't even remember how old I was or what decade (late '60's or early '70's). They did stamps and coins at the time as I recall. You sent a dime or a penny or something and got a bunch of foreign coins or a bag-o-stamps (used) depending on what you sent for. A great value learning experience for a child. It was neat to get the (almost) loss leader but the approval items quickly got beyond your allowance. Then Father had to talk to you about the cost/value side of the experience...

After thinking about it for a while, it dawned on me that I might have a surviving "investment" from my Littleton experience. I am pretty certain that the below lot was one of the things sent on approval or was the opening offering from Littleton, and I think it was 1971. This lot had to be less than $1 or I would have bought two Matchbox cars instead. I'm almost certain this lot was 10 cents. Japanese Invasion Currency. In any event, years later my Father had forgotten that I had acquired these and thought I had raided his collection. It turns out he had a 50 centavos one that he got while in serving in the military in WWII in the Pacific Theater (New Guinea, Leyte, Philippine Liberation). That one is now in my "never will part with" collection as well (in his foot locker along with his uniform). Understanding now what THAT meant, I can appreciate why he did a double take when I pulled out that certificate. Littleton may not be the best value in the world but the company, inadvertently, gave me a priceless memory.

Does Littleton packaging add any value---Only to Littleton. They are overpriced; however, in my early days I did buy from them occassionally. When I was young, I thought it was cool to send in one of their little adds that came in Parade magazine out of the Sunday paper.

You know, this is all starting to sound very familiar... I haven't thought about it in many years, but when I was a kid I remember signing up for some service where they sent me foreign coins on approval. I think I still have a few tiny little Bulgarian coins somewhere in a box in the attic, in fact. I honestly don't remember the name of the company, but it sounds like it might very well have been Littleton. Anyway, back to the original topic, I went ahead and removed the coins from their packaging and put them with the rest of my ASEs. Anybody want some empty Littleton blister packs with nifty info cards?

I reading this thread I was looking at some of my coins last night and I apparently did have a few Littleton coins. Just the repackaged world bullion. A Mexican Liberdad, North Korean coin, and the like. I started cracking them out a while ago and putting them into air-tites or 2x2 because the holders were taking up to much room. Just a word of warning, some the the information on the back of the cards about size and composition is incorrect on some of the coins. Not that it matters much. I just paid spot price for them.

Well, the fact is, liking Littleton Co. ir not, they HAVE inspired / introduced coin collecting to a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't be in the hobby today. Gotta give them some credit for that at least.

I, like a number of folks, have fond memories of Littleton. They are the ones that got me going in collecting. I was a kid and those packages of foreign coins may well have been overpriced in terms of 'value' but for $0.35 I could get three coins from Bulgaria or Czechoslovakia or any number of other places. That was exciting! I still have some of the original manila envelopes. I think it is a shame they have moved away from this business and focused on overpriced silver whatever. Obviously it is working for them but I do remember those early days of collecting..and I still have probably a couple of hundred foreign coins from them.

I am not saying they are the best thing ever, but they have done more good than harm. It is still my opinion that their worst crime is their pricing. They are not in the same (lowest of low) class occupied by the home shopping charlatans.

I agree that they are not the worst, but they are certainly not the best place to buy coins. Years ago I also had signed up for their "coins on approval" program and had a hard time getting them to stop.
