The Jefferson nickel looks like cooking oil and then added a heat source to the coin.jaycutler, I know anything is possible when it comes to coins
But given the circumstances of the sale to the friend of mine
that owns the shop where I bought that batch of roughly 30
War Nickels.
From his impression the lady that sold him the coins
She was not a collector and had been in possession of them
for quite some time. they were in a batch of roughly
$100.00 face in Silver that was brought in when Silver
jumped above $20.00 an ounce Sept. 2010
If she was a collector my thinking is
that she might not be selling them for melt. Just one
of the nickels I purchased was sold for $30.00 that afternoon. And there was a number of other keepers
of other denominations that my friend kept also.
Only two had that weird coloring on them.
I am not saying that was not cooked But I was wondering
if something else that may have caused this.
I have no intention of having it slabbed or selling it
as something special. It was just a weird coin that put
a question mark in my head. Many coins do that to me
And to add to the Christmas Color thread
One of my favorite coin show purchases
