Here is a 18 mm thin brass coin with symbols on it. When I searched Arab countries (Syria, Turkey, Tunsia) I found Turkish Piastres with the repeative star around the rim but no central Star with crescent moons or orange segments surrounding it.
The coin appears to have been holed into jewelry as the women in Arab countries would sometimes wear their wealth on their veil or headband.
Any comments or speculation on jpeg, could help.thx

There's a clue to the answer right there. It's a jewellery imitation of an Ottoman coin, for poor folks who couldn't afford real gold coins to adorn themselves with. Here's another one posted on the forum a few months ago, in better condition with the same star-pattern.
