Luckily, I collect coins because I love collecting coins ... sure, I hope that they're gonna be worth something when "someone" eventually decides to "liquidate" them, but I'm certainly not collecting coins thinking that they are going to be my nest-egg ...

So hesgut, if you're (we're) correct and coins are gonna be almost worthless in 60 years, then just imagine how cheaply you'll be able to snatch-up the World's most awesome coin collection! (man, I'm jealous that I'm not gonna be around in 60 years to bid against you!)

On the bright-side, coins seem like the type of collectible that will "always" be considered collectible (they're an excellent way to examine our history => they even come with dates on them!)

Also, what happens to it all after.
Kind of a horrible society where almost everyone has the fear of crime. I would think almost the greatest majority of our populace has that fear of crime and yet so little is done about it.

I often fear silver going down to what it was 3 years ago (when I began collecting silver coins). But I often wish it would happen so I can buy all those coins that are right now far too expensive.

Like everyone else, it's theft and fire for me. Luckily I live in a relatively safe community and none of the neighbors know I collect coins. My collection isn't on display and I trust the people I live with not to poke through my collection.

Most likely after I'm gone my heirs won't be interested in collecting so they'll be sold off, but since I'll be dead I don't really care what happens to the coins. I don't expect others to live my life for me after I'm in the ground by continuing to collect. Maybe someone else will get a good deal..... I just hope they're a nice collector who deserves a good deal and not some dealer trying to make a fast buck.

As for losing them in a fire, I doubt that will ever happen but 14 years ago I lost everything I owned in a flood..... house, furniture, clothes, all my books and collectibles, electronics..... everything. I don't think I could handle another major disaster in my life.

My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell my coins for what I told her I paid for them!

Right, but coins (at least some coins) are considered 'artwork' or 'cultural history' much more than stamps. I think you may be right about modern coins, at least.

My greatest fear is fire, theft, mishandling a very expensive coin, etc.
Rest in Peace

I helped a friend do some big bucks on Amazon, selling hard to find toys. His six year old daughter got an occasional goodie, but understood the difference between "daddy's toys" and "my toys".

I fear if there is no more money as we know it, nobody will really care about coins and my valuable collection with thousands of hours of time spent will be worth very little. Coins will simply be a novelty...every Buffalo nickel might cost about a dollar (adjusted for future inflation) because that's what "they used way back when." No key dates, no collections, just individual novelties.

I don't fear that at all. The money I have in my coins is "entertainment" money. I didn't expect to get it back when I spent it so if the value of my collection falls I really don't care. But if values fall I can potentially acquire a lot more.

Actually, I would not mind seeing a nice drop. I would grab all of my key dates and call it a win.

I fear the Mrs would get sick of it being strewn over the house and start spending/selling it. Its been threatened a few times now and resulted in a flurried cleaning spree.

Theft and fire would be the 2 biggest. In regards to the comment on stamps, the folks who put together the catalogs keep raising the prices that stamps are 'worth' but the supply/demand equation just doesn't seem to work out. The guy at my local stamp shop keeps bumping up the prices but there is no one to buy the stuff.

I'm sure many thousands will be thinking the same thing. Hence, I can't ever imagine prices dropping too far.
