I sell rolls of higher quality 76 halves above face value. Nothing any of us here cant get by going through rolls of halves. So the people who buy them from me are stupid? Hardly. they just dont want to do the work I do for them. The same people dont want or know to get boxes from the bank. And how many times have people said their bank wont order them boxes. PLENTY. So what choice does someone in Bumflop Dakota have aside from getting stuff from this guy or someone else doing the same?
Agin, folks defaming someone based on absolutely nothing. It really is getting old. That may be so, but that doesn't apply to that seller who CLEARLY inserted a "gold" coin on the end of a penny roll and claim it's "unsearched". |

Exactly...sorry if I angered you Don, but I think that finding a gold coin at each end of a normal roll from the bank and filled with IHC is a chance of 1 in a 1 000 000 000 000 of finding such a thing that is ``unsearched`` or ``untouched`` Edited by Apollo

Ummmmm, I do believe this thread had NOTHING to do with penny rolls. We were talking about the rolls of halves. Which may well not be searched. And unless he is REALLY good, I am not sure how he would manage to get coins out of one of those rolls and re-roll them to remain in those wrappers. I have never seen those wrappers for sale, only in the boxes from NF String I believe. Pretty sure they are proprietary rolls, though I could be wrong there.
But as far as the penny rolls thing goes, I will restate what I have said before. I have bought some of those before. If one pays only what the end coin may be worth, then no big deal. I have got some decent wheats out of those rolls. Nothing stupendous, but not bad. I am well aware they are not "unsearched", but I have never over paid for them either.

Seller is not guaranteeing any silver in the rolls. Seems odd to most of us who can get boxes of halves at the local bank, but there are a lot of collectors who also cannot get rolls or boxes. Seller makes himself a small profit and is not exactly gouging. It all comes down to 'what something is worth is what a person is willing to pay for it.' I wouldn't expect this seller to take the time and effort to list and ship the rolls and not make some kind of profit. Buyer Beware!

Yes, those rolls could contain a silver coin, but it is very possible that those kinds of listings are about re wrapped rolls, which means the rolls only contain one valuable silver coin. One silver coin does' worth 1000 dollars at a low condition.

I honestly think this guy is putting up unsearched rolls. He sells $10 face for $16 to $19. The picture is obviously of some rolls that had nice enders. I think most of the rolls have nothing, just like rolls from the bank. And this guy has nothing to do with those cent roll sellers that place gold on the end. This guy only sells halves, and even though there is no way to tell, I don't think he's being deceiving at all. He's making a huge profit on rolls whether or not there is silver. Some of the buyers may get silver, just like in a regular box. He can make a couple hundred bucks per box, not even caring if he is giving away silver or not. Genius plan.

true these probly are unsearched since anyone with a digital scale (and common sence) wouldn't need to search them, silver weighs more than (or the other way around I cba to google it) copper/nickel and since all coins are made to the same size and thickness, all you would have to do the tell what rolls are junk and what rolls have junk silver in them is weight them, and true there are some people that do get lucky from ebay rolls but after making what sellers do they can afford to amuse a few of they buyers, and besides the feedbacks of I found one look good and help there sales or in more english (copy and pasted from another site) "There are no automatics, so you have to open every roll. My experience has been that rolls weighing 224.9 and less never have any silver in them. I have gotten 40%ers in rolls that weighed as little as 225.0, but that was only once or twice. For me, most 40%ers occur in rolls that weigh 225.4 to 225.9 and when I see 226 and up that usually means there is a 90%er in that roll. Conversely I have gotten rolls that weighed above 226 and there were all clad coins inside, but for he most part 226 and up means a 90%er. Obviously these are just my experiences and your mileage may vary." Edited by chrisking66

To all those who are moaning about unsearched half rolls and how idiotic it is that anyone would buy them I have one thing to say........bottled water.....enough said.

I don't see it as a scam what so ever ... meh. The guy I've looked at on ebay consistently sells a roll of halves for $16ish + shipping which means he makes a $6 profit per roll. It would be in his best interest to just pick up halves and sell them as is because he makes $300 profit per box. Let's say he opened up rolls, found a 90%, sold it for melt, rerolled the rest, put the rerolls up for auction ... doesn't seem worth it. If anything, the guy I've seen is smart. As others have said ... some people can't get halves. My main bank for pickup is amazing and will order and get anything I want BUT a different branch of the same bank a couple blocks away says they can't order, sell boxes etc. |

It has been my experience that even legit people who come up with a new idea on how to make profit will always have people tearing them down without researching the facts. I know one person who actually has made a very good living in another hobby - and this is ALL he does. I have heard this guy hailed as everything but Satan himself by some of the people who most likely would be doing the same thing had they thought of it first.
I do not know if this half dollar seller is a sham. He differs from the penny roll sellers b/c, unlike wheats and indians, Kennedys are currently the main 50 cent coin in circulation. You cannot go to a bank and order boxes of wheat cents.
Anyone who has access to banks who will let them order halves can do what this auctioneer is doing. His write-up seems more honest and open than the people trying to say a roll of wheat pennies with a gold dollar in the end is unsearched.
What ever happened until "innocent until proven guilty?" This guy may be a con man, but until he starts stuffing 20.00 gold pieces in the ends and claims he got them this way - it is only our personal opinion when we say he is being dishonest.
Technically this is the same with the penny sellers also - but their crazy actions makes their credibility suffer.

Couldn't agree more! I'll admit I was a little mad the first time I noticed rolls of halves being sold for a wee bit above face ... wanna know why I was mad? Because I didn't think of it first haha

, jdbeier38! Open question: How many of you half searchers average a 40% per roll, or 90% every two rolls? <crickets> So, strictly from a profit point, you'd be better off making a guaranteed $6 per roll, wouldn't you? |
