the description makes me say it may be a Switzerland 1/2 Franc.

...and there should be 23 stars on post-1982 coins. To make sure, ask the YN if the word "Helvetia" appears below the standing figure.

I only know this because Krause points this out. The additional star is the only change in the design if the ½ franc coin since 1875.

On these coins, it's one-star-per-state (the states are called "cantons" in Switzerland). In 1979, Switzerland split off the district of Jura from the state of Bern, creating a new state. This new state "got it's star" on the coins in 1982.
