Hello all! This coin I recently found has really intrigued me... It is a 1972 Washington quarter with a large "S" stamped on it. I am new to this and I want to know if this is something special. Also, my searches on the internet have been unsuccessful in identifying this. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What you've got is a regular 1972 quarter that someone has stamped an "S" into. It's called a counterstamp. People did that for various reasons, sometimes for advertising and sometimes just for fun. Probably the case with yours - someone trying out their new die stamp set.

Value? Twenty Five cents.

Thanks Steve! Figured it was something along those lines, but thought I would check it out to be sure!

You're welcome.

Steve

(Looks like it should be one of my "monogrammed" coins! LOL!)
