When I was a kid I started collecting coins from pocket change in the early 80's, to be honest I had no clue what to look for but I was doing it because my grandfather collected coins and I wanted a way to connect with him. I was at my parents house for Christmas and had mentioned in casual conversation that I was getting into roll searching and collecting, my mother said to me that she still has my coin collection in the attic from when I was a kid, which I had completely forgotten I still had. After some searching I was able to find mt childhood collection and had a chance to go through it last night. There really isn't anything of great value from what I could see, but then again I know that as a kid I didn't know anything. Here is what I have: 1. Around 20 coins from other countries (most from Mexico or Canada) 2. around 50 nickels from the 50's and 60's (all collected in the early 80's) 3. 4 Buffalo nickels (only two have visible dates from 1936 4. around 50-60 wheat pennies 5. 2 silver Mercury dimes6. 1 Liberty Bell half dollar 7. 2 silver quarters from the 50's 8. about 20 different bills all from other countries I know the silver dimes, quarters and the one half dollar have silver value but don't know about anything else. Since most of the collection is wheat pennies and nickels what are some key dates I should look for. P.S. Now that I am getting into collecting it is kinda nice to have a small collection already to start with. Thanks BB

Sounds like you heed a copy of the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Great book for lots of basic information. It would really be to long a list to make here for what to look for. And for now adding to this hobby, you really should get a book or two on what is what.

How wonderful to have your old collection again!
Last year I dug out my old coins -- and my husband's -- and it has been a lot of fun to go through them.
Enjoy your old collection. I'm glad you have it back.

I am kind of in the same position as you, BB. I collected for years and then stopped about 20 years ago. For some reason, I wanted to once again see what I had. That was it! The bug got me about 2 weeks ago. Now I am buying supplies to get them all in order and recorded. It will take me months to do it, mostly because I am on here learning and asking questions.
Have fun with them! I know I am.

More important than the value it probably brings back some great memories having the old collection back.
