Looking at the U.S. Mint site there is no release date,( that I can find ) for the 2012 cents in rolls. Does the Mint send out cents for circulation before they offer the P & D rolls for sale? Are the 2012 cents in circulation?

It seems they take a while to get out rolls and proof and mint sets and other annual collectibles. They're definitely in circulation.

Just curious, is the shield on the reverse of your 2012 penny?

I just got back 2 BU 2012 Lincolns in my breakfast change in southern NJ this morning. Looks like right from bank roll and now right to the album.

Why would it not be? The shield is the new permanent reverse design.

Reverse will be the shield for at least 48 more years or until they do away with the cent.

The reason I was asking is because I am still learning. The 2009 Lincolns were only done for that year and certain designs for other coins were only done for a year or only a few years. Thank you for letting me know the answer to my question (even if it seemed ignorant to some).

No problem with that and I apologize if my answer came out the wrong way; I could have worded it better.
I was actually hoping you heard something that I did not know, like a new error.

My hope is the latter.

Thank you jbuck. Sometimes words get a little bit tangled when we are trying to say something in print without facial expressions and voice tones to go with it. No offense taken.

Since the 2009's were only for that year I have been saving all of those I find. Someone sold 2 boxes of the 2009 Presidential design for $469!! on ebay. Here is the item number: 270894962616

Wow... $470 for $50 face and ~$30 intrinsic. Crazy!

Welcome, 1StarLight. Have fun collecting and learning! I've learned an amazing amount in the few short months that I've been a member here.

I wouldn't really care all that much if they did kill the cent, but they could at least stop making them for several years, because they make WAY to many cents each year IMO. 5 billion (in 2011)? Really? Half of the cents I get back in change these days are 2011's.

Sorry, going off topic I know.

Thank you CelticKnot. I didn't realize I might have OCD until I got back into collecting coins again....lol. My goal to get 69 bank boxes of halves between March 1st, 6th and 7th seems to be raising a few eyebrows in the JFK roll hunters forum. However, today I was informed by one branch that they have indeed ordered my 57 boxes and then the other 12 bank boxes were also confirmed by another branch.

It wasn't a case of trying to outdo anyone or set a record. I just want to try it once....lol. After that jump start I will settle into a slower routine of maybe 5 - 10 boxes a week. Depends on how much silver and such I locate in my initial order (And the rental income on my property will soon arrive). When I told the bank that the 57 boxes was a one time order the teller did sound relieved but said 5 to 10 a week after that was no problem....lol. And to think I tried to get 2 boxes from a totally different bank and they would only get me one. Another bank said I had to order at least 2 boxes just to place an order. It has definitely become very interesting over the past week checking to see which bank will do what for me.

Oh, and after some said they didn't think it could be done.... well, I just had to try! As the saying goes, "you won't ever know unless you ask" or "you won't ever know unless you try". So, I just had to go ahead and ask and try.

Have been on the phone with many banks and also in person with some. It took only 4 branches from 3 banks to get a YES. If I add more banks later and have a little more time to sort them, I may up the ante on boxes but not in the same region of the state. And not very soon. I have to rest sometime....lol.

My godson is also learning some qualities that I hope will help him in life. If it is something you really believe in be persistent. If you get a NO, don't let that rejection stop you from trying to still get a YES even if it means going somewhere else to get it. Believe in yourself even if no one else does. If you get a YES make sure you let the person who helped you know how much you appreciate it! Don't be bitter about getting a NO because it led you to finding a YES somehwere else. Share your joy with others because enthusiasm is contagious. These traits are not taught in school but are important life skills nonetheless.
