I (SW Florida) picked up some brinks rolls cents this morning and they're mostly 2012. When I say mostly, I mean that all but 2-5 cents in each roll are 2012. Which sucks. If they were nice solid OBW rolls I could save them or trade them for 2012-D from West coasters. As it is, I am stuck with lots of new cents and only a handful of old stuff to go through for wheats and stuff. I suppose I can make my own rolls, but they won't be very good for trading.

I guess when Brinks gets bags of new coins they just dump them in the hopper with the circulated stuff and it gets mixed.

Post-Satin Finish era, I stopped looking for the newest coins coming out.
All I have to do is buy the annual Mint Uncirculated Sets to keep my albums updated !

There's no reason or purpose for me to do that anymore (waiting for the newest shiny BU coin or roll to become available).
And certainly "hoarding" any of the newest coins is folly...so I just figured, "why keep doing that ?"

And trading or selling rolls or singles can be exhausting.....but for those who like to do that to make a buck or two, more power to ya.

I guess my point here though, is just that it isn't necessary any longer to do that if your collection needs are "albums" !

That is true, but it is much more expensive to buy than to get a face value at the bank. It is the fun of the chase too.

Chances are that a couple of the coins in a mint set are defective or marked up. It's easier to cherry-pick gems by going through rolls than mint sets, which are basically a crap-shoot.

Where is the fun in that?

I will admit, if the Lincoln Cent and Jefferson nickel go NIFC (as I want them too) then I will have to start buying the mint sets myself.

Am still seeing mostly 2011 coins. Yesterday I found a 2011 nickel, 2011 Olympic ATB Quarter, several 2011 Ulysses Grant Presidential dollars.

Have been looking. Probably in two weeks I will get some more bank boxes of quarters to search. Still searching to complete my ATB Quarters and my godson's album.

Hmmm.... Here's a thought. When I asked my Garner BB&T bank for rolls of coin with a straight run of dates they said I should check with Walmart or SECU. I don't qualify for joining SECU because it is only for state employees and family members but there are 2 Walmarts in the area. One is in Clayton and one in Garner. Wilmington has two Walmarts also.

Maybe this will help some of you to find what you are looking for at face value.

If anyone tries this let me know how your Walmart responds and also what you find.

Thank you.

Ya'll find BU gem P AND D mints "in the wild" ? ....
And of EVERY denomination ? .....

I have to admit that a large portion of my opinion nowadays is skewed as to my "level of patience".
Which is not very long when it comes to staring at "empty holes in my albums" !
The older I get, it is just "more fun" for me to complete albums as quickly as I can......to have those pages FULL and with the best quality coins I can afford at the time.

But, I have albums for EVERY denomination.....so I HAVE to have the Uncirc. Sets to get my P's and D's.
By the time I find the P mint here in Kansas.......it LOOKS 30 YEARS OLD ALREADY !
Again.....don't have this problem getting BOTH mints if I just bust them from the Mint Sets.
And where would I get my Native Dollars ?
The banks aren't carrying them.... They don't hand them out at the tribal casino's.....
Let alone P and D mint of this coin.....just finding THE COIN AT ALL in the wild would be impossible.
And the Kennedy's.....

Well....anyway.....for "my" collecting needs, I HAVE to buy the Uncirc. Set every year.

I still get the mint sets, but I count on circulation for some because a mint set usually contains a lemon or two. And if you want to set aside uncirculated rolls, you have to go with bank rolls for most denominations. Not to mention the 2005-2010 satin-finish boondoggle, which forces the OCD among us to resort to bank rolls to find brilliant finish strikes (20 different cents, 36 quarters and 98 total circulation, mint set, proof and silver proof coins for 2009.)

I am very glad to be a circulation collector. It would have driven me crazy if I filled my albums from mint sets!

Eaglefoot I just found my frist two P mint Yellowstone and Gettysburg. Both are in MS condition just like the Denver mints I see. I just learned that Colorado is the last state to get and new coinage in circulation.

I know you can get VERY nice looking BU/MS coins this way.......did it for years..... BUT MY POINT IS STILL VALID WITH GETTING BOTH MINTS THIS WAY, ....AND OF EACH AND EVERY DENOMINATION !
No matter "where" you live in this country, by the time the "other" mint begins to trickle in, you're the 147,539th person to have it !
You can get lucky with the "opposite mint" sometimes, by having a quarter or dime come in to your hands, and it IS exciting (because it's so rare)......but not EVERY denomination of coin.... EVERY single year. will this work. Not in BU/MS condition !

Cent
Nickel
Dime
Quarter
Kennedy half
Prez. dollars
Native Dollars

I need BOTH P&D of each of these !......and if I did this "from circulation", I would have all sweet lookin' nice and shiny D mints......then right beside them....most all of my P mints would just LOOK LIKE CRAP ! In every single album too !
And I just can't have that !

If I was going for all circulated coins.....then yeah maybe it would work.....but I'm just putting the creme-de-la-creme in all of my Dansco's.....(or at least what I can afford)

I thank the Heavens that there is no more Satin Finish to muck everything up anymore ! .....

I dunno, some Denver coins get to me through circulation in pretty nice shape even though I'm on the Philly side of things.
