Your coin is definitely Roman and I am by no means certain, but I believe your coin is a Severus Alexander with a Victory reverse similar to RIC 212. Take a look at this link on wildwinds: http://wildwinds.com/coins/sear5/s7928.htmlThis may not be the exact match, but it is close in style and design. I hope this helps. BTW, Regards,

It would make it easier if I knew the size and weight. If you don't have a scale, make a guess. For the size, use a ruler that has millimeters. Both of these measurements can help to narrow it down. It may not even be S. Alexander, but we can continue to chip away until we think we have it.

the diameter of the coin is between 2.7 and 3 (since it is not a perfect circle, the longest diameter which is across measures 3 or 300 mm)
it is 4 mm thick
the weight of the coin is 18.9g
thanks again

So, it is a large and heavy coin. Possibly a Sestertius or an As?

I agree the bust looks like Severus Alexander. The OP coin has SC on the reverse.
A look down the list of Severus Alexander that JW posted a link to comes up with a couple of sestertius Victory with wreath and Palm and SC but not the exact reverse.
Maybe it's a similar but different emperor?

Once again I am not certain of this attribution but it could possibly be S. Alexander RIC 618: AE Sestertius. 231 AD. IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG, laureate head right, slight drapery on far shoulder / VICTORIA AVGVSTI S-C, Victory standing left, holding wreath and palm. Here is the link on wildwinds: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/seve...RIC_0618.jpg

The coin on wildwinds provides the following information about that coin:
SEVERUS ALEXANDER, AD 222-235. AE Sestertius (29mm, 21.49 g. Rome mint. 12th emission, AD 231.
This coin would appear to be about the correct size, but your coin is lighter by approx. 3g. This could be the result of wear on your coin.
I hope someone else can confirm this attribution. As I said, I am not at all certain of this.
Regards,
