Real Life Augustus! Reading descriptions of what Augustus Looked like, this is the best real life reconstruction I have seen. How does the image you post compare to the image on the coinage? Here are two of mine: I think the likeness is striking.

Lots of character in that face.

That Looks About Right
Strangely, I have used this approach after completing a design, and after doing all of the investigations and calculations, and CAD modelling. It provides a good artistic check on your work. That's something all good engineering design seems to have in common. Also helps to sell it to a client.
In this case not too hard to guess to whom each of these images belong.
Joe: Thanks for sharing. I have only seen pictures of plaster or marble busts in this context before.

Those reconstructions are fascinating, particularly seeing Imperial Roman sculptures in color. I suspect that visiting Rome, at the height of the empire, would have been breathtaking.

Quote: I suspect that visiting Rome, at the height of the empire, would have been breathtaking. In more ways than one. A city of a million people even with the fastidiousness of the Romans had to "take your breath away" as well. I can't even imagine the smell.

Or any major large city pre-automobile, with those thousands of horses and their manure. Major culture shock no doubt, but if time travel were possible, I'd love to see what Rome was really like.
