Interesting target for counterfeits! Bm0ney.
Just checked my two 2005 counterfeits in album, the denticles are not that clear than normal toonie. But, they ARE 14 denticles!

No, darryldarryl. Those 14 version 2010 toonies came from MINT rolls, so I don't think they will be fake at all.

@darryldarryl, people seems to have pretty much all of one variety or all of the other, that's why we need stats from everyone to get a better portrait of the situation. Up to date: -normal serration (16 denticles): 284/342 (83%) -short serration (14 denticles): 58/342 (17%)Even if you only check a few 2010 twoonies, please send your stats! Thanks, to be continued...

I checked my SIX 2010's (including Lynx babies) and all have 16 serrations.

I'd like to find a 2010 with the 14 serrations, but it seems finding any 2010's at all in circulation is tough enough.Low mintage?

Indeed DBM, 2010 shows the lowest mintage in circulation twoonie's history with 3 990 000 coins, and my guess is that 2011 will show a similar mintage. For 2010, even if they would split 50-50, that means both varieties would have a mintage of 1 995 000 coins. And that is before any melting (excuse me, "recycling") takes place. Since the Mint is producing new plated twoonies for 2012, it is understandable that they produced only the minimum for 2010 and 2011. Why would they strike a lot of coins that are meant to be melt in the next months/years anyway? Therefore, you can also expect a huge mintage for the first years of the plated twoonie. The most plausible explanation by now for the 2$ 2010L, I think t_y was the 1st to submit it to me, is that the Mint may have run some tests for the next plated twoonie's serration. Nicolas F from Numicanada gave us a great link that support that idea, in the Order Amending Part 2 of the Schedule to the Royal Canadian Mint Act : http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2...324-eng.htmlYou can read that " The serrations along the edge of the coin which help the visually impaired identify the denomination value would remain but the spacing would be slightly smaller to accommodate the lettering along the edge. The thinner serrations would still be prevalent to ensure the visually impaired can recognize these new coins" Not only the serrations are thinner, but they also took off 2 denticles so there'll be enough space for lettering. You can also read that " With two versions of each coin in circulation, no capital outlay to modify equipment will be needed but a requirement of an additional process to pre-sort the one- and two-dollar coins prior to using weight-based equipment is possible. [...] The RCM has plans to recover and remove from circulation the current nickel alloy coins through its Alloy Recovery Program (ARP) to minimize these impacts as time progresses.". So, to make it short, if that variety interests you, now is the time to gather coins, infos & stats, because it might not be around for a long time. Actually, there will be less and less out there, starting this year.
