@qbvbsite: Yes two $20 for $20 were released in 2011. You can see them below. I don't want what the going rates are for them on the secondary market. They are 27mm in size.

The maple is a simple design:

I like the canoe design:

Can't wait to get the polar bear!

I see they conveniently don't mention how much .999 silver, or the diameter. ¼ ounce?

Should be the same as the first 2 issue. And, it's a peak of the new coin that one of the forum members "stole" from RCM's site before it was released to the public and subsequently taken down until that day comes, hence the lack of details.

@realpenny: I do not have any of the other platinum bears(polar or grizzly) at this time. I also haven't tracked the price of the coin versus the artist/designer of the images used on the coins. From what I have seen though, the lower mintage coins sell for a bit more, but usually all the coins in the series sell for between $250 and $300 lately. I am speaking of just the 1/10z platinum coins. Most of the 1/10oz coins were produced only in sets, so to find singles you have to find broken up sets. There were some 1/10z coins that were issued separate along with the sets.

I like the realistic look of many of Canada's animal coins. However I still am stumped at what happened with the Silver wildlife series 1oz coins. Compare the images of the Grizzly, Cougar, and Wolf to the images of the platinum wildlife coins of the Grizzly, Cougar and Wolf. Quite a difference in quality in my opinion.

@PlatinumDuck: I too like the realistic look of Canada's flora and fauna on coins. Canada has quite a few great artist/naturalists who do great work and know how to show the subjects beauty as is, for what it is and in nice detail. You can tell every so often there is a great coin and the artist knew what they were doing.

For the "Silver Maple Leaf Special Issues" I find the Grizzly to be middle of the road. The Wolf and Cougar are poorly done in my opinion. I believe all three were done by WW. WW seems to be a jack of all trades in terms of subject matter. I do not think wildlife is his only or main thing and to me it shows. I know the coins are popular but... ya I think I'll end the sentence now.
WW is also an engraver though and his ships etc seem fine but I do not know the subject matter in detail so I can't really comment in those areas.

The Bateman you posted in this thread was designed by Bateman but engraved by Sheldon Beveridge according to the Canadian Coins Vol 2 book. To me it is not a strong Bateman because some of it seems lost due to an engraver reinterpting the artist. If you look at the $150 Polar Bear in that series WW did the engraving and it seems the stiffest of the bunch of the Bateman coins.

The Harlequin is Susan Taylor both as designer and engraver I believe... it is nicely done. (I would like to see a scan of the coin for detail one day).

I think the engraving step might be done by machine now (but I don't know all the mint's processes) so the designers touch might not be lost as much now going though an engraver. Though the frosting can wipe tons of the original details away from what I have seen. The RCM has some great artists. I hope the RCM can keep the artist original vision and detail because they are easily some of the best artwork on coins in the world.

Anyways just my opinion.

Looking forward to placing my order.

Any ideas how long it takes from when the Masters Club can pre-order to when the non masters like me can?
