coin searching tonight as you guys may have noticed haha and came across this 2004 coin which is almost 1/2 times thicker. I do not have a scale but would love to get this one weighed any thoughts? the coin is also the same thickness all the way around, could it be another countries planchet?

It could be that the coin was struck with a little too much pressure, therefore forcing the rims to be higher. Just a guess though, no expert, barely a novice.

Thickness of the rim is a function of striking pressure, weight is a better measurement. It looks like there might be a bit of finning(extrusion of the planchet between the die and collar) on the bottom of the reverse rim which would make the rim appear thicker. Foreign planchets are not possible for most US coins since the Mint no longer produces coins for foreign governments. However, Zincoln planchets are prepared by Jarden Zinc and I believe they do produce planchets for foreign mints so there is the slight potential for a mix-up.

I've seen this before. The weight is the same as normal, just the rim is thicker. I can feel the difference in thickness in hand. Seems like the years I've seen this before was 1998-2000.

Congratulations you have a very well struck cent. Striking pressure was higher than normal and the rims were fully struck up. This makes the edge of the coin appear thicker. Compare the edge of this coin with that of a proof coin and you will see the same thing.

This is proof the USA has been gaining girth since at least 2004 and is not a recent phenom produced by bad diet! Give us the weight.

Any suggestions on where to get it weighed, last time I took a coin to a silver smelting place but I sold them some silver.
