Comments on the commem? It has tons of luster with very faint toning.

I have one of these. Classic commems. can and do excape into the hands of collectors in other parts of the World.

Mine has a few more nicks on it than this one, mainly on the bear's fur.
Mind you, I don't think the bear would mind too much; I think his /her fur would be thick enough not to bother him/her? I am not all that skillful at identifying the sex of a bear depicted on a coin!

MS 62 or 63 for this one.

I'm going to go with 61/62 not knowing how the 2 small rim/edge dings on the reverse affect things. A very nice coin and one I've been trying to add for many months. Worth in the $130-$160 range depending on the day on ebay, I would say. One of my favorites. Check out the views from Treasure Island if you're ever in the area.

this is a fun coin. I don't know if you knew this, but you could buy this coin at the bridge when it was released. That bridge was one of the many Depression era public works projects undertaken by the Roosevelt administration. It'd be nice if we had that same sense of purpose in building great public works these days.

Typically, the reverse of this coin looks better than the obverse. Probably because the reverse has a small all over pattern with similar relief.

Thanks for the info CC. Yes, I have the Whitman Commemorative Guide and find it fascinating. I read that about buying these at the bridge the other day. Nearly every commem has some interesting story behind it.

Yes, we are on the same page. It would be nice to have that mindset again to be on top, to think big, to rebuild and to lead the world into the future by doing something concrete rather than pushing money around.

@onebowl... We have that area on the list! I want to take a train from Chicago to Seattle, then drive to the San Fran area seeing the Redwoods, Olympics etc on the way and return via the southern route... That would be cool.

I say a very lovely example of a great coin ...

Tough to offer a grade opinion without the coin hand ... I say most likely MS-something ... the reverse rim dings are a concern.

The bag hits on the obverse Bear portrait are common for this coin ... and the reverse with the cluttered fields seldom shows issues at MS condition.

Appears to me to be a lovely MS example (minus the rim hits) of a fabulous coin ...

Net distribution was 71,424 coins ... a low number by today's standards ... but somewhat above average for the classic US silver commemorative series.

Thanks for sharing ...

I think I found a commemorative coin for my 7070 album. Nice coin.

I know the Colombian Exposition commemorative is inexpensive these days, but I think it sure is an attractive coin. I recently grabbed one for the 7070 album that had some nice toning.
