. So, if we take a baby step and get rid of the penny then later on we can get rid of the 2cent coin.

2¢ pieces were used (for lack of other change), but were never popular.

I can see clerks short-circuiting if they had to make correct change with 2w¢ pieces and no cents.

No 2 cent and get rid of the cent (I'd say get rid of the nickel as well but if you do you need to get rid of the dime as well because of making change problems for the quarter.)

Bigfredd is right about having problems making change with 2 cent pieces and no cents.

And yes I have an 1880 Three Cent but it's not for sale.

We should just have an honor system where we keep track of our pennies on a little piece of paper that we carry around. Instead of the clerk handing us 3 pennies in change, she just puts three tallies on our paper, or she crosses two off and gives us a nickle.

It sounds silly, but actually we have had a similar system for years with the take-a-penny jars. A penny has no value, except to keep the till count right.

I personally would give all my business to a store that rounded all receipts up the next nickel and then donated all those pennies to the Shriner's Hospital or the like at the end of the year.

we don't need nickles or cents, we certainly don't need 2 cent pieces again.

Make the dime the smallest denomination. I could even be talked into getting rid of the dime as well!

speaking of a 3 Cent Coin, does anyone have 1880 3 Cent nickel?
Why are you asking for that specific date? That's one of the dates that can be very difficult to find in virtually any grade, especially in a decent circulated condition. Worse yet, it may be very, very difficult to tell that it wasn't a circulated Proof unless you get it in AU condition and know the diagnostics to look for.
