Quote: Check the orientation of the "7" in the 1970 Captain Cook coins. Hi Squire, Both those are tilted 7! There was a normal 7 but only average condition. I also found two 1994 wide date (and many narrow date) but not good enough to get into the "pick of the crop" pics. I will keep the wide dates. Quote: But then the thrill of finding an "incused" or a "Bradman" or a "UN" would quickly wane Never for an incused and it is always a good feeling to find a very nice condition earlier date coin. Jeff PS. There were several other Bradman's and UNs too but more average condition.

Hmmm Jeff. Your "sparkling" find has certainly made me enthusiastic . I wonder what I will find in tonight's noodle of 100 x 50 cent pieces from Westpac . Squire

Opened a $10 bag of 5 cent coins last night. Coin number 7 out was a 1972. really lifted my spirits. Unfortunately it did not have any other relatives of the same year in the bag.

Last nights Westpac bag was not too good to me Shiny "Royal Visit", "Year of the Outback", "Year of the Family - narrow date" and "Bass and Flinders" 50 cents. Upon closer inspection by loupe, the shiny coins were rather pitted with bag marks. Not up to the standard of equivalent coins in my album. So the whole lot went back into "the financial ocean". I guess ordinary days like these make "jackpot" days so special ! Squire

Is that S for "Sydney" or S for "S**t"?

Last night I came upon a little "gem" whilst noodling through some Armaguard rolls of 1 dollar coins. Upon breaking open the roll there was one coin which was shining, blinking at me, almost radiating its brilliance . I could not believe my luck when I found that it was the 1996 Henry Parkes "Father of Federation" coin. Soooo difficult to get in good condition. And this little beauty is near uncirculated . Noodling through Armaguard or Chubb rolls sometimes yields some amazing surprises. Pic attached. Squire

Thanks nancyc and enworb . There is one other 1 dollar coin which also wears horribly. That is the 1997 Kingsford Smith Birth Centenary. Perhaps an Armaguard or Chubb role containing a near-uncirculated coin is somewhere out there, waiting for me to unwrap it Squire

I am in the habit of asking for dollar or fifty cent coins whenever I shop. Last night at the fish and chip shop I got a eureka dollar AND a fifty years of television out of four dollars change. My guess is the results of someone circulating the results of a burglary.

Probably a couple of dollars. Heaps sell on ebay around the $2 to $5 range - not really a rare one, and easy to find in mint state, still in its pack. That said, it is a pretty rare find to get one out of circ. I'm still to find any NCLT coins of any denomination from noodling.
