Nice find penny dreadful, in finding the "B" mintmark Henry Parkes. Since finding my "C" mintmark "Henry Parkes, I have been wondering about the mode of issue of this coin. From McDonald I see that some of these coins are "mint your own coin" - does this mean that the public have a session at the coining / stamping press at the Royal Australian Mint ?. (maybe a great opportunity to create your own "twist top" ) Some of the coins are issued at the Royal Canberra Show, or the Royal Agricultural Show in Sydney. Is there a stand where the punter can pick up a collectors coin pack, or how does that work ?. Squire

Squire, When I was at the mint a few months ago there was a mint your own machine running. The machine is fully automated and behind glass, so you can see what happens, but it is not able to be interferred with. The mobile press for shows must be set up in a similar way.

With the Mobile Press used for MYO MM coins, the only part that is DIY by the purchaser is the push of a button, the rest is done by a RAM staffer.

Which is a real shame nancy. Imagine all the crazy errors that could be made deliberately if customers of the mobile press were able to place their own blanks in the machine

Thanks for the feedback ozcoins and nancyc. So it sounds like the interested punter pays his money, then pushes the button. A bell then sounds, which wakes up the RAM staffer . He / she then duly picks up a blank and puts it into the press - and "presses" the coin. And with a smile (if Mr / Ms RAM staffer is in a good mood) hands the coin over to yon punter Squire

The canberra one is fully automated. There is even a little conveyor belt which delivers the newly minted coin, along with a cardboard sleeve. It makes a pretty impressive industrial thud when the coins are pressed!

And if you don't hold your hand over the catcher box at the end your coin will bounce across the Mint shop floor.

I seen the youtube clip of the Canberra one, And the coin and packaging go along a conveyer belt, so I guess you have to put the coin in yourself.
he he I was such a pain in the but at the Melbourne ANDA, when I was stamping the coins "well pushing the button" I was asking the mint guy, "can I get a different coin" he laughed and said he gets asked that all the time "and I was like well can you counterstamp in a different area" and he was like nope "can you counterstamp it twice" nope he had got ask all of that stuff before.. And then I asked "can I get a blank one without being stamped" he laughed again and said now that would be a good and expensive error. Nope. Aww poop

Couple more finds from today's lot: Firstly, a C mintmark Landcare dollar from 1993. Been in the pond a while... This was from the same bag as the Rotated 2001 COF dollar. My 50 cents bag had this one in it...my third Incused found in the wild (plus an ebay one) This one's the best I've found wear wise, but let down a bit by some coin roller marks, especially above Queen's head Still got my 20 cent bag to ferret through

Imagine all the crazy errors that could be made deliberately if customers of the mobile press were able to place their own blanks in the machine With the Mobile Press, the coins used have already been minted at the RAM, all the Mobile Press adds is the Counterstamp -- Incused Circle surrounding Raised Letter -- (Portable Press 'MintMark') for whatever city it's in at the time. So no blanks used, and it's very much a manual process with the coin being placed in the Press fairly carefully by a RAM staff member wearing white gloves, slide door gets closed, you press the button, press goes THUMP, coin gets taken out, checked and placed in Folder by same RAM staffer & is then handed over to you. Next!
