Well, if mint staff were well alert they would pick up die breakage quickly. I have found several of these coins with the same Cud so, obviously that die churned out a fair number before it was changed.
I have a 2001 $1 with a similar sized Cud and some Federation 50¢ with a rim Cud equal to one flat. Cuds are found often on decimal coins but usually quite small.

Nancy is the Cud queen so check out some of her error coin post for lots of Cuds and nice photos too. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...play&id=1665

...during last nights noodling session I finally found my second "Queensland Centenary of Federation" 2001 20 cent piece. This state has been the most difficult. I have been "noodling" for almost two years now, and for comparison I have found four "Millenium Incuse" 50 cent coins.

But there it was last night, shining with a real "Sunshine State" glow and bringing warmth to my slightly chilly Melbourne living room .

Good on ya.
I notice a Norfolk island 20¢ too. I have found that the hardest one of that series to find.
