That's fairly similar to what I find while noodling, except for the Olympic dollar, which I didn't even know existed. Keep up the good work!

I found this good looking coin in a coin hopper that had about $2000 of $1 coins in it at the time. I find it amazing it looked so good considering. Only two very small scratches on the obverse, otherwise a perfect coin.

This is the second one I've found in circ. First one was spent by the missus at the time. I'd say someone spent this too, straight from someone else's collection haha.

It's one of the mint-your-own coins from the mint, and judging by its lustre, it must have only recently been spent. It also looks as if it was collected by a professional, because the little cards they gave people to store them in would not have allowed them to retain that lustre. I have a mint-your-own coin from the following year, and it looks nowhere near as good as that one, despite me doing my utmost best to keep it in its original packaging (which is almost impossible because of the cheap glue they used). That coin is a true gem if ever I saw one. Congratulations!

You know I had to look up the mint-your-own coin thing. I hadn't actually heard of it before. That's pretty interesting. Sometimes I am quite surprised by the $1 coins I find in these machines. Funny thing is though, the day before I found this one, I paid for one on ebay. Luckily that one was a different mintmark.

"C" mintmarks are the most common, due to the mint being located in Canberra. Usually, the other mintmarks come from special events, such as shows. You used to be able to get the "B" mintmark from the Ekka, but now they've replaced it with a "B" counterstamp.

Greetings all. My name is Matt. Just discovered this site and loving it; I'm particularly enjoying this thread as I'm a noodler. I found a 2016 20c "Fromelles" coin in change the other day in aUNC condition. Couldn't find the mintage though.
Looking forward to the $500 of $1 coins I'm picking up this Thursday. I'm sure you can guess what my focus (hope) is. :-)
Although I have a table-top magnifier (not great) can anyone tell me what I can buy to get those close up shots?
Finally, so many interesting people here; I'm looking forward to adding to my growing knowledge of all things coins.

Sorry 999fine. It's not the best pic is it. I will Take another. A quarter or the coins rim is smooth & the edge is near rounded as well.

There are many different Camera types that will give you the results you like, personally, I use a USB Digital Microscope. Again there are all different brands, mine is Kaiser Baas, but they're no longer made. Cheapies are available, just do some shopping around, JayCar, Hardly Normal, ebay etc. I find there's no need to go any stronger than 20x200 for magnification. Mine cost AU$69 back in 2011. There are heaps of threads here that deal with photographing coins, these 2 for example: USB microscope - why only 2 MP?: http://goccf.com/t/139869&whichpage=3Images taken with my kaiser baas Digital USB Microscope: http://goccf.com/t/111156It's possible that not all images that were posted in these threads will still be visible due to Photobuckets' current policy. Sorry, but that's beyond my control.

I've noodled a few like that before, and I've given them all straight back to the bank. The only rounded 50c I know of that are worth keeping are the 1966 ones, but I don't know enough about the minting process to completely rule out the possibility of a mint error in other years.
