Some people said that they were a re-cut die...I've seen a few examples on 2006, too many to name on 2007 & a handful on 2008 50's.

A big time shock job; then again they seem to be able to do a shocking job of everything as of late.

Well, I have examined my "worn die error" 50 cent coins and have found these in the 1999, 2007, 2008, 2009 coins. The 2007 is by far the worst. But not as bad as nancyc's example. Last night's noodling of 20 cent coins produced another 'pub coin' and a very nice 1980 coin. I have attached a pic with 1981 pub coin on LHS and the nice 1980 coin on RHS. In my noodling I have been watching out for "near-uncirculated" coins in the bank rolls and bags. I recognize these by the lustrous sheen of the coins surface, with little or no pitting. These are constantly upgraded as I get better material. My "near uncirculated" 20 cent coins are 1967, 1969, 1975, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000. They make a handsome set. Pic attached. I assume the "pub" term is used because of the corrosion on the coin cause by some sort of liquid?

In a previous posting on this thread Appleangel07 mentioned that he has a stained coin with "Bar" written on it. Would love to see a pic of that coin Would be interesting to take a number of coins and dunk them in coca cola, milk, beer, soft drink (especially those "high octane" supercharged / hyperchemical energy drinks ) for a week and see what happens. This does appeal to my scientific alter ego. So I may try it out. Easy enough to do ! Squire

Hmmm... juzzyb. Looks like you may have a scientific "alter-ego" also When doing this experiment, I may even include some household detergents etc. But I will make sure that the liquids are housed in safe receptacles, and that they are correctly sealed. Labelled, and well out of reach of inquisitive little tackers !. Squire

My standouts for this week were three 1991 ramsheads and an aUNC 1981 coat of arms. Also reasonable number of Centenary of Federation and one rather good 1988. Plus several others of various years I thought worth keeping. This was from $800 of 50¢ -not one incused or 1985 (but a 1993).
Also got a rather nice 1995 UN 20¢ and a 1981 Royal Wedding 50¢ in change.

Went through $100 worth of 50 cent pieces today, and found two 1988 Bicents, and just the one 2001 state (WA) No rotated 2010 COA's, but snagged an 85 COA in pretty good order, so was happy with that. My first 1985

congratulations penny-dreadful. Your hard work of noodling is starting to pay off In all my noodling so far I have snagged just two 1985 50 cent pieces. And two "incused". So I think you have done well !. Squire

Well done penny dreadful, Those 1985's are hard to come by. I know the 1993 50 cent is supposed to be slightly rarer but I reckon I will find 5 1993 50 cent coins to every 1985 coin found. I think collectors must be hording the 1985 coins so to find one in the wild is a great achievement. TCH

Quote: Don't noodle all the good ones out of circulation.. I'm sure there may be one or two more out there waiting to be found...maybe an Incused...I still hold out hope. Of course there's a coin shop or ebay, but that takes away from the thrill of the chase!! Better getting them out of circ. ASAP, as 50c pieces take a battering, don't they?

Congratulations Penny Dreadful! Squire, I think you have been lucky with the 2 incuse. I have found 6 or 7 1985, but only 1 incuse. Thats probably about right statistic wise too. There were 1,000,000 1985 and about 200,000 incuse. I reckon a greater proportion of incuse would have been taken out of circulations becasue 1- it is on a commemorative coin, and 2- they are worth a bit, so more people would look for and keep them.
