This token was my father's and I remember looking at it back in the late 50's or early 60's. It is my brothers now and we can find no information anywhere on it. Does anyone recognize it or know a rough value? (if any)

It has a very interesting history. Some information I found online.

Fort Niagara is a fortification originally built to protect the interests of New France in North America. It is located near Youngstown, New York, on the eastern bank of the Niagara River at its mouth, on Lake Ontario.

The fabric of this fob appears modern ... mid 20th century. It was likely a tourist item that was sold at some novelty shop in the Niagara Falls area. There may have originally been a key chain attached to it.

In terms of rarity, I seriously doubt that many folks here on the CCF have one of these in their collection, so it's likely a rarity in that regard. I've been collecting exonuma, tokens and medals, for decades and have not before seen this item. IMHO, this collectible is more of a novelty item; and, outside the sphere of interest of most token collectors. It's the sort of item that most exonumia dealers would sell from their dollar box; hence, not a rarity in terms of value. It would likely have more value to someone who collects memorabilia from that geographical area, Niagara.

Perhaps, your Dad once visited the Niagara area? Maybe there are some family pictures of Niagara Falls? If so, this item has some family history attached.

Thanks for the info regarding the token. It probably was just a novelty item. We lived (and I still do) only about 20 miles from Old Fort Niagara and have visited it many times over the years.
