Hello Folks,
Just wondering if someone could give me a current market value on this set please.
It is a beautifully presented set in superb condition with the certificate.

Hey Nancy,i should have just asked this question in the Australian section.
Thanks for the reply & yes it is a help, I was starting to think I might have to send an email to The Royal Mint.
With the lack of interest here now I'm wondering if i'll even be able to sell the darn thing LOL.
The certificate says there were only 500 sets made so I thought they may be a rarity,i did'nt think they would be that rare that people from the country they were made in did'nt know anything about the though.LOL

Thanks heaps for your help

One other thing you might be able to try a bit further down the track is to contact CCF member James Royal Mint, but he only has 26 posts so far, so probably not doable just yet.

He works at The Royal Mint.

Hi, did you manage to get any further information from James at the Mint? We also have the set (purchased from a dealer in the US!) for my son - the real coin collector, but at 10 he is not allowed on forums such as this one!

I can find the 4 coin silver piedfort proof set (1984-1987) on a well known dealers web site for sale at £145.00

The retail market for these in the UK is pretty poor (despite the low mintages), take it to a coin dealer and you would likely be offered scrap value (!)
Me, I think I'd stick it on ebay.

Hi, just read the comment re scrap value! When we first got the set we mentioned it to someone in Spinks in York, he said that the 1983 piedfort was extremely rare and offered us £70 for that alone. But it seems that most of these sets went abroad. James from the Mint - if you are reading this what are your thoughts?

There are five piedfort silver proof 1983 £1 coins on ebay.com just now, cheapest buy it now is £89, one ending in four days is currently at £45 (bet it sells for more than £89!)

{why does this forum change . co . uk to . com?}

Jamjar . . is this your restriction on your son? I have been a member for a little over 6 months and have not seen anything that I would not want my grandchildren (12 & 14) to see. Unfortunately, they have no interest at all in coins. See the third word in the header of this page. "Family" It is a family friendly forum and there are members younger than 10. He can learn as much as he wants from the many members who are willing to share their vast knowledge.

Hi Jeffrose. Yes it was my restriction on my son (Though Jamjar is his nickname). I made an assumption that as he was only 10 he would not be allowed onto the Forum. Twitter, Facebook, ebay etc all have restrictions on the age of users so I just assumed that this was the same! I have to say having been following this forum for a while, that there is nothing on it that I have restricted him from looking at (he is allowed to go through the pages!). So if he is allowed to post his own notes I will let him do so. Sorry if I have upset anyone.
