thehulk Valued Member Canada 178 Posts	Posted 02/16/2012 3:28 pm Royal Canadian Mint @CanadianMint @CanadianMint announces Canada's 1st Augmented Reality (AR) coin at a function with @GaryTaxali + #MattBarnes at the @agotoronto tonite! Just saw this on the Twitter from the Canadian Mint. Any ideas as to what an "Augmented Reality" coin is? I don't know about you guys, but I think regular coins are real enough. SteveCaruso Pillar of the Community United States 1796 Posts	Posted 02/16/2012 3:58 pm It's probably a coin with a design, insignia or QR code on it that works with an iPhone or webcam to add to a video feed. I think it would be a neat thing if you had a program on your iPhone that counts your spare change on sight, or picks out key dates by photo recognition. :-) Report this Post to the Staff

"Fiduciary markers" is exactly the phrase I was looking for. Their coin probably has a mark on the design that allows you to interact with some sort of video-based system on your computer or smart phone. Report this Post to the Staff

AR experts Helen Papagiannis and interactive media company Daqri will show how a smart phone can scan actual coins to reveal the story behind their creation and information on artist Gary Taxali.
