Perceptions can be very misleading. People used to constantly accuse me of being rich because I drove a brand new corvette and traveled all over the world. In actuality, my income is well within the poverty level; however, I've never had a wife or kids and I live in a warehouse rent free. I'm very frugal but do splurge on things that I like. People put their priorities in different places and spend their disposable income on things that interest them. Some people buy expensive golf clubs or bicycles, while others don't mind spending money on coins.

I am rich in that I have a loving family, some wonderful friends and have recovered from some serious illness's. I sold off 95% of my coin collection in the last three years to pay medical expenses. My medical costs totaled almost one and a half million dollars in the last 3 and 1/2 years. I spent over 100K out of pocket with insurance.!!! Through all this, the forum over these last two years has been a sanctuary for me. I have made a very special friendship with Susan that will last a lifetime. I have a few special coins that I will not part with unless I really have no choice. I love this place and am much richer for being allowed to be a part of it. I don't care if you collect from circulation or buy pieces that could pay for a house or car. The basis and love of this hobby is the same, no matter what level you are at. So yes, I guess I am rich. I am extremely rich in all the things that matter - a great partner, super kids, wonderful family and friends...barely two nickels to rub together, but who cares?

Rich? I don't think so. I collect ASE because I work 2 days a week while in school. Who knows what kind of job I might might land when I have a degree though.

I'd say we are all "rich". We have enough food that we don't spend every coin we have feeding ourselves, and we all own or have access to a computer to get on the internet. All of our lives are more comfortable than the poor.

Hmm, lets see. Money in savings account, $350. Money due for tuition, $450. And I'm really starting to wonder why I'm going to a coin show this weekend. Arg... Ty

How true... I once saw a cap that had the following words:
"I gave up chasing women & drinking, and found I didn't have to work anymore"

I think this turned out to be an interesting thread - helped us get to know one another a little better. I, as everyone else, am rich in some ways, but dirt-poor in others - nothing that can't be lived with though. I appreciate all the responses, and do believe that we all tend to post our nicer coins in the grading section - be it for help in grading , showing off, or just for sharing our great finds. I enjoy looking at the many coins that have been posted - many of which I probably would never have seen had it not been for this forum. I thank you one and all.
