They are pretty expensive to collect, unless there's an error.

For anyone who loves the Toonie, here's a great link: http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn...lars-5300016
On top of sharing the Toonie's many faces, it also gets into tech specifications and mintages over the years. Enjoy!

We also publish this info for our other circ coins if anyone is interested. Head to: http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn...ency-1100028

BTW we are in the process of updating this circ area of our site so stay tuned for that!

Toonies are a nice coin. I bought a 1996 proof today for $5 USD. Very beautiful coin. I have one of the new plated ones. I don't like that version of it. The plated steel ring looks cheap and counterfeit like. I'll collect the old toonies, but not the plated steel ones.

I have also found that there is truly very little response to toonie and loonie questions in this forum. I am definitely a collector of these coins mostly found in circulation. I have some interesting stuff that I am waiting for an opportunity to photograph.

That's a wonderful list, although most collector are not able to finish it.
I guess toonie is not so popular because it's too young...

Kudos to the above members who posted the Toonies lists. I think the set of Toonies is going to be a "sleeper" set. No real action on it for 20 years, then all of a sudden the numismatic community will wake up and say "Holt cats, look at all the varieties of Toonies there are! I'm going to see if I can get the whole set!" It won't be until then, I figure, that the Toonie will come into its own as a collectible. The ones collecting them now are the smart ones, because they'll have fantastic sets for reasonable prices.
