Hi all. I'm new to this hobby and I have some questions re. NBU/UNC coins. If I understand correctly, these are considered to be different from B.S. (now that stands for Business Strike and not what you thought of ); nevertheless, are there any ways to look at a NBU coin that is already out of its package and tell that its not a MS B.S. but rather a NBU/UNC? I mean, is there any difference between their strikes/finishes, in particular for the modern RCM-packed B.S. mint sets?

I'm not thinking of cheating and submitting a NBU as a B.S. to a TPG, but if the difference is not obvious, then I think TPGs should give it a second thought. After all, you might be paying for a M.S. Gem and getting only a NBU.

But then again, the Mint produced 25x7000 B.S. half dollars in special wraps in 2011 (see http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/speci....UmvTDvmkppA ), but lists 0 mintage for 2011 half dollars (see http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn....UmvEEfmkppB ). Very confusing indeed...

Thanks Nathancrh1! I've seen them before (and hence the title "...revisited"), but these do not really answer my questions. It seems like the latest NBU sets are listed to have "circulation/business strikes" by RCM, thus I believe there should be no way to tell them apart from coins made for circulation, as was mentioned by Ugly in the last post of this thread:

Ugly, care to share your results?

In case anyone here is interested, and to answer my own question, I have recently seen graded ICCS flips without the "Numismatic BU" designation in the comments section for a 2011 50 cent piece, of which the mint produced none for the purpose of circulation (they however produced some overpriced special wrapped rolls of Numismatic BUs, however).

To summarize, there is no difference in strike between business strike coins made for circulation and numismatic BU coins made for collectors, at least for modern coins and if the latter carries a "business finish" designation. I rest my case!
