More of a die chi[/break on that area. These are very common on the 1950's what cents as they over used the die way past retirement. Thus all the strange stuff we find during that time.

Recently, cuds-on-coins reclassified many of the date-and-mm area interior die breaks as die chips. The second coin pictured was a former IDB that is now DC-1c-1952S-03.

(IMHO renaming Retained Cuds as "pre-cuds" and reclassifying many interior die breaks as "die chips" is becoming a royal pain in the neck for those of us with batches of previously attributed coins in 2x2s. End of rant.)
