I have always found provenance to be an interesting factor. It is not the most important one, because it certainly does not outweigh the grade and eye appeal of the coin.
Although new discoveries do infrequently occur, most of the top end Victorian coinage has been in a notable collection, or two, along the way. It is sometimes a fun exercise to track these treasures back through older auction catalogs to see where they have been. I have found it relatively easy to track my NF cents back through several collections, because only one or two exist at the top grades. It is a little harder with the Canadian cents, but some of the older dealers will sometimes remember specific coins and how they have moved.
The way I look at it, we are only the temporary guardians of these coins.
Pittman, in additional to having some of the best stuff also had a lot of bulk stuff and rolls.

A dealer told me couple of years ago that ANYONE who submits enough very high grade coins to a TPG can eventually get their name on the slab... How true it is, I do not know.. but it does make at least some sense. Dealer also said that Pitman coins are still graded today... again, how true it is, I do not know Rob, maybe you should have the following on the slabs. "R.T. "Bosox" collection" you could probably get it.... And Glenn could persuade Brian to add" Glency collection" hey guys, why not?

1920 PCGS MS-65 Red. Another under-rated year for high grade cents.
