I would lean toward the modern version. We've seen them a few times here on the forum before, like in this thread. They're machine-struck, mass-produced and, as I said in the earlier thread, their flat two-dimensional appearance and curiously distorted designs make me think they were copied from an old picture or line-drawing of a mite, rather than a genuine ancient coin.
