This coin looks close to uncirculated, but not quite.
Perhaps there is a tiny amount of wear on the dear Lady's boobs, but perhaps they are indeed pristine.

There are lots of tiny nicks over all of the coin, but perhaps you would expect that with such a large pure copper coin that is 215 years old. The coin must have suffered these very minor attacks over a century ago.

The date numerals look a bit wonky, but that doesn't surprise me very much, because there were many minor variations with this issue.

Almost uncirculated, and a coin that would sit nicely in any collection.

Very nice coin! Many of these have big dents on the rims due to weight and softness of the copper.

Actually, the close ups show that indeed there are very few nicks and scratches.
Uncirculated.

Very nice coin. IMO the coin has been circulated and shows some wear. I would grade it at EF-40.

If I were to offer an imaginative guess, I would say this coin saw little actual circulation.
Judging by the short scratches and small, uniform edge dings--the coin may be "shop-worn".
From what I've read, the "carthwheel" 1d and 2d were more popular for shop balance weights than money.
This coin appears handled--but carefully as one might expect as a balance weight.

I have a two pence cartwheel penny and they where made for the actual weight
of copper and indeed to be used as weights. They wasn't popular as coins
as they ruined pocket linings, they do
tend to have knocks along the edges

I agree that this is a beautiful coin.
Regarding grade: copper is soft, and a coin can still grade as "Unc" if it has a few "bagmarks".
Of course, bagmarks may prevent it being "choice" or "gem".
The question becomes, whether there is any wear from circulation apparent.
Sel has asked a question in that regard, but I'm not sure that the answer is easy to see in those pics.

quote: "Perhaps there is a tiny amount of wear on the dear Lady's boobs, but perhaps they are indeed pristine."
- my reading is that the Lady was the Duchess of Richmond, and that she was ... well-circulated.

While researching this coin more I came upon this thread about the same coin.

I have a few worn ones but this got me intruiged, it has something what appears like chocolate colored gloss all over it: http://www.snapagogo.com/photo.php?id=12768

It came with an envelope which is marked with GF, presumably Good Fine? and 'EKs' (that I don't know what it is).

Reading they were used as weights seems kinda cool.

A while ago I read somewhere else that they sometimes took one of them and split it in half to make 2 thinner ones out of, and sometimes even 3? Although it might have been one of the other thivk pennies they did that with, not sure anymore.

EK = "edge knock" - the dings on the rim.
