They were produced by the bucket load in Victorian times.Sometimes with an advert on them or simply gaming tokens.A lot are found holed to be used as a watch fob.There are some rarer types but very few collectors hence worth very little.I picked up about 20 for a couple of quid so see what they were like.

Thanks for that. I'm presuming the inscription may be some sort of advert then? It's worn quite poorly and I've been unable to make it out. It begins 'CHARLE...'

It would appear yours has an advertisment. There is no hard and fast rule.(in memoray of the good old days is common)

I believe this is another example of the type made by Charles Peverelle of Birmingham. This recent thread has a less-worn example.
