Hello Friends. This Question has been in my mind for a while.

Why are Pennys just DDO's and not DDO and DDR's Both?
Why are Penny just DDR's and not DDO's in both?

Has anyone found a Profound DDR,and DDO in ONE Penny yet? And if so,is there a link a pic?Help!

My views are that after the 1955's,1958,1969,1971,1972 DDO's the US mint tightend up on creating(or letting one escape from the MINT) another such Treausre, due to general Public Hoarding of the CENTS.And,should one find one after these above mentoined DATES say a 1973 DDO and DDR (All in ONE Penny),(EXCEPTIONAL,easy to spot without a Maginifying Glass)would it be worth a FORTUNE as a collectable?
Has anyone found a 1973 DDO and DDR in ONE Penny? or any other DATES in the entire linclon cent series? Appreciate your advise.God Bless!

Let's answer your question this way.... What is it that makes a Doubled Die (not a coin but the die itself)?

DDO / DDR do happen but like ikandiggit hinted it's does not happen at strike. Obverse dies and reverse dies can both be doubled and that happens separately in two different hubbing events. Then these 2 come together as a die pair and strike some DDO / DDR's. Later one of the dies in the pair might wear out before the other and be replaced leaving either the DDO or DDR doubled die to strike some more.

There are not very many "profound" doubled dies to start with so the odds of both are slim.

I have a 2004 that is both

Same is true with RPM they are more common then DDO's but I know 1957-D has a a lot of RPM/DDO combo's. Now want would be really nice is to see DDO / DDR/RPM Not sure if there is anything out there for it but I want it!

I doubt your 1973 coin is a DDO / DDR. My best bet its a Mechanical Doubling. I've found numerous 1973 MDs that were pretty strong where some that dont understand the whole DDO / DDR process would think they are Doubled dies. Now dont get me wrong I still get them mixed up sometimes due to the way some of them look.

I think 2004 has a DDR/DDO coin the back is pretty nice but the front is mild.

Thanks for your response. Its now clear that its hard to find a real powerfull DDR and DDO in one, especially for after 1972's.The old coins YES! due to MINT was not so hard on Quality control etc.One way I know that its (1973D) is a DDR,DDO is from advise from this forum. It will ADD more to the coin. And,that what it did ,it added to the FACE all MOTTO's front and Back even the Building and FG.Its Exceptional to see the 1973 Letters Doubling on it and even the MINT Mark.Thank you! God Bless.

99% of the time it is one side doubled die/tripled die on one side only.
