Hi guys One more time ( I know, I am a pest). Are die cracks on 1974 Winnipeg dollars the normal thing with these coins...?

Is that the one they call a "chain"? I saw a dealer has one in MS and wants some $500 for it.

He showed me the same coin in a Charlton coin book but I can't remember what year. I thought it was refered to as chained but I could be wrong. Now I have to go through every book I have.

Just looked through my 2012 Charlton coin book, and saw NO reference to that die crack at all...

I found it in the 2006, 60th edition. They refer it as a progressive and no two coins are identical. On page 527 the minor die crack in which you have obverse 1 in MS64-65 is 3-6 dollars. Obverse 2,Die crack or "Linking Beads" price range 5-500 dollars. I guess we were both wrong. I wounder how many heavy linked ones were found and what price was established?

You know what cownick..Back in 1974 they probably only found a few of them when the $500.00 price tag was established, but as more came out they really dropped in price...I have 3 of them myself and other years also...Beginning to believe the $5.00 price is about right....

For it to be truly worth something, the die crack has to go ALL the way around the beads, and thick enough to see without magnification. You also get this occurring on the 1973 nickel dollar reverse, and the 1975 obverse.

What do you mean ...? Well now it's worth $6.00 instead of $5.00...

Close wert, but not quite. You want the die crack to be prominent all the way around. Here is my example, from the reverse of the 1973 business strike nickel dollar. So far, the best one I could find is MS-64, but the hunt continues..
