Hi, can anyone make any estimate on the value of this 8 digit radar note ? Also, how rare are these ? I think I saw one reference to being 1 in 11,111 or so ? Can anyone comment on this ? 2005 $50 polymer - estimate EF condition - standard cat value = $50 no harsh folds, tears, or pin-holes, but a some edges a little rippled.. thanks, xevious

Goatie is the man when it comes to notes. I am not very good at grading notes but I can see at least 3 folds/creases which I would have thought drops it to as low as VF. Dont listen to me though

Hey enworb,
its not very dirty but it isn't crisp either... has a touch of limpishness....
quite different to an Unc.
hard when there is no intermediate grade - so I guess that probably pushes it down to Very Fine.
graders are possibly on the pessimistic side and sellers the optimistic !

From what I've heard from numerous people now it doesn't help that the markets fallen out of polyemers at the moment. I've been looking for a radar in the wild but havent managed to find one yet. Thursday I'm going to get $3000 of $5 notes to try and find one. Fingers crossed.

wow thats a pretty huge amount - you should stand a decent chance even if its a few short of the supposed requisite $55,555 statistically need to find one....
i was lucky.. I would have checked l20 or 30 or so to find that one...
sounds like its worth keeping if there's a slump.
good luck. be interested to hear how you go.

A difficult number combination to find which I am sure will appeal to many collectors. As usual condition is all important and I would agree with the previous posters and say a grading of VF seems more likely and will hold the value down.

To me a note like that is nice to see, but even harder to come by. In years that I've been looking through notes, I've found many radar's, many radar repeaters, many 7 digit radars, but only a handful of 8 digit radars.
I was re-inventing the stats that I put together a while ago, regarding commonality. I figured there was an easier way to look into the stats. So I've been in the process of doing that lately.
I'll use 2005 as an example below: An 8-digit radar number is very scarce (I actually think it's more rare than scarce). There will only be 99 in any print run that goes from e.g 05 000,001 through to 05 999,999. This is because 05-000050...05-011050...through to only 05-999950 all have to end with the serial numbers 50, so basically you're counting from 0500 through to 0599 (0500, 0501, 0502...0597, 0598, 0599). That leaves you with the odds of 99 per 999,999 or broken down into 1 in 10,101.
From year-to-year & print run to print run, they all differ. In the case of 2005 $50's, there were the following print runs: AA - DA: 000,001 to 999,999 = 40(prefixes) x 99(8-dig radars) = 3,960 DB - GB: 000,001 to 999,999 = 40(prefixes) x 99(8-dig radars) = 3,960 GC - JC: 295,501 to 999,999 = 40(prefixes) x 71(8-dig radars) = 3,124 Overall print: 108,179,880 Overall 8-dig radars: 11,044 Percentage: 0.0102089% In the case of 2005, you have a one in 9,795 chance of finding an 8-digit radar.
(Ok, you're asking thy there's 71 (GC-JC's) it's because the next to pass after 295,501 is (05)299,250, therefore 28 have already passed leaving 71 left (99-28=71)...don't worry it confuses me too...it does take my brain some time to tick over when I'm looking at these stats...but I love it!!)
I can't think right now but I'm pretty sure that there's only 1 possible 8-digit radar repeater in every prefix... e.g 05 500550. I'll leave that till I've got more of my brain back from the last equation.
All up, I love my $50 notes, recently I did a huge noodling session through just over 900 notes & I only found one radar, one (7-digit) radar, 5 first prefixes & 4 last prefixes.
In Notes out of 999,999 straight off the press you will get: 9 solid serials (e.g 777,777) 90 radar repeaters (e.g 707,707) 99 radar 8-dig repeaters (e.g 07 688670) 900 radars (e.g 735537) 900 repeaters (e.g 735735) There are also many more combinations of notenumber serial types...but it's too late for me right now. Want the stats? Go to sleep & dream of numbers...it's good for you. 900 repeaters

What's it worth? Whatever someone's willing to pay... 2005 had: AA First Prefix - 1 in 108 JC Last Prefix - 1 in 154 8-Dig Radar - 1 in 9,795 Solid Serial - 1 in 108,180 I'd pay big bucks for an old paper (pre-decimal 7 or 8-digit radar), but in polymer I have my two favourites which are: I've forgotten the prefixes, but the serials are: (98)888889 (06)000060 I'd probably pay 2-4 times face value depending on if it was nice, if I liked the serial number. For yours if I was interested, it is CC prefix which is pretty cool, the condition is a letdown, but the condition of the majority of 8-dig radars are. I'd probably offer $75 plus post. But I'm sorry to say, but your note doesn't do much for me. Try & get a copy of Trevor Wilkin's price list, he'd have some examples of 8-dig radars in it. I just had a look, he's only got a: $100 1996 Test Note. 8 x Radar 96777769. P/hole in VF cond for $325 which is rather cheap for a test note, but it does have a pinhole which some collectors can't handle.

Thanks again to all for your feedback, especially your very detailed analysis goatieman23. Very informative ! I shall absorb that. Thanks for all the stats.
Pity the condition is so low.... I was hoping it was worth more than that. Looks like I'll have to file it away.
Trevor's website/price list are also very handy - good tip.
thanks, xevious

Xevious, as for the price I said I'd pay, I'm sure you'd be able to sell it for above that on ebay if the listing title was right: e.g. Australian 2005 Full 8 Digit Radar Serial Note Rare 1 in only 10,101 A recent item that ended on ebay with similar qualities to you: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-5...em3cc1d31a2aAs for Nancy's, I like that because of the numbers: 05588550, they've got more appeal to me. Sellers on ebay with 8-digit radars at the moment: $300 for a pair of UNC 2003 $5 http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-8-Digit-R...em43acccf89d$319 for a single UNC $20 2020 THIS WILL NOT SELL AT THIS PRICEhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-UNC-20...em231bd16b68The only recent history of 8 digit radar note sales on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_nkw...d=1&_ipg=100Also, certain people pay $$$ for certain serial numbers...church goers love 7's, asians love 2's & 8's, bikies & goth's love 6's etc. I brought the following $50 serial numbers (in strict UNC condition) back in Feb 2010 at an auction: 97 777779 - $214.65 98 888889 - $238.50 But these notes are special. I sold the 97 777779 with a 97 777777 solid for $650 ($260 for radar & $390 for solid) which is very cheap in comparison to dealer prices.

Yesterday I noted to the missus about a $50 that I had just got from the ATM... it was a 8 digit radar but the last digit was one off... I said, hey look at this, the next note after this would have been worth a bit! At the time I had no idea they were so rare, thanks Goatieman for sharing.

Steve, if I ever need to know about 50c pieces I know you have every single little detail about all of them, the rarities & all sorts. & if anyone wants to know anything at all about polymer notes I'm there to give out as much information as I can through all of my stats that I've put together.

I'd be keen for a II 11 111 111. Likelihood is for a $50, with a possibility for a $20. The only questions are; will it be released, will it end up in the hands of a collector, and how much would it go for?

I don't know how much of a premium you guys sell fancy serials for. But here in the US, I see bills go for a nice premium. $1 bills sell for 5x-10x face depending on condition, even sometimes higher.
